Stefan Wolf

IPCEIs to scale up European battery manufacturing

Bio:

Dr.-Ing. Stefan Wolf is a consultant for innovation issues concerning the energy system and electric mobility at VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH. He holds a doctorate in engineering sciences from the University of Stuttgart. Within the scope of his dissertation, he investigated the increase of energy efficiency in industrial production processes using model-based techno-economic energy system analysis. The focus of his academic work was on the interactions of technologies in modelling decarbonisation-paths for the industrial sector in Germany and Europe. In the course of his dissertation, Dr. Wolf acquired extensive knowledge of the energy and the industrial sector. Beyond his academic education, Dr. Wolf holds certificates in innovation and product management.

In January 2018 he joined VDI/VDE-IT where he covers innovation topics in the fields of energy and electric mobility. Since May 2019 he is leading the accompanying research for the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) on Batteries contracted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). In this role, he coordinates the build-up of battery consulting capacities as well as networking activities amongst key players in the German and European battery-manufacturing ecosystem.

His tasks at VDI/VDE-IT also comprise the assessment of start-ups and business models within the Digital Innovation Founder Competition, the EXIST start-up programme and the ProFIT innovation support programme. In the accompanying research Smart Service Welt II, he deals with digital platforms and new business models in the energy industry. In the accompanying research ELEKTRO POWER II he worked on the integration of electric mobility and the energy system. He also advised Toyota Europe in a foresight project on the future development of the mobility sector in Europe.

Furthermore, Dr. Wolf is a member of the External Experts Advisory Board of the EU-funded Dryficiency Project, which promotes the development of high-temperature heat pumps for process heat applications. Dr. Wolf fluently speaks, writes and negotiates in German (native) and English and has additional language experience in Spanish.
